'I liked it so I brought it in every colour '

Buying Habits - Consumption and the joy in repeat buying .

"Is It Worth Buying the Same Item in Multiple Colours?"

I am a double - multiple purchaser . Can you relate ?

Until recently I have never admitted

to or thought too much about my habitual purchasing.

I am clearly not alone in this habit :- I was staggered to find Tik Tok  I Liked It So I Brought It in Every Color has attracted 11 Billion Likes !

Ok , thinking about it further it makes sense to repeat purchase or buy something in more than one colour. Especially if you’re time-poor, lacking in confidence, or simply can’t be arsed to find an alternative. I know I like X pair of trainers so I will just get another pair exactly the same - sorted - no worries about fit, suitability, or affordability, all those boxes have been previously ticked.

Vinted and Ebay have made it easy to track down long out-of-production favourite items of clothing that need to be purchased again that otherwise it might be virtually impossible to track down.

This habit of consuming in me gets ever stronger, over the years. I wonder is there a name for it ?

For me it started back in 1978 with Rimmel Coffee Shimmer, that legendary gateway lipstick which launched thousands of lips into the world of cosmetics . Rimmel was the brand of choice for me and my school friends, you were either in the Coffee or Heather Shimmer “Gang”. I couldn't make up my mind so brought both.

I wore these for most of my school days I left school and the brand behind, but didn't forget them.

Lured back in the Noughties by Kate Moss putting her name behind a range , I continue to buy lipstick from them today as they are great colours and quality for very reasonable price. I even have a Rimmel Coffee Shimmer clearly it’s a classic !

The next repeat buy I recall was in the early 1980's from Romford Market - a beige trouser suit that looked so good I had to go back to buy the black version.

My friend Julie and I both enjoyed wearing

these suits out and about on the town . She even mentioned they recently to me , saying that she’d like to have a copy of one of these to wear now.

The suits eventually ended up at Oxfam to be sold or recycled

5 FAVOURITE MULTIPLE /REPEAT PURCHASES

Ugg Boots

Years ago I purchased a pair of beige suede cowboy style ankle boots, out of curiosity to see what Ugg Boots were like, and because they were 70% off.

A few years later I brought a second pair, black suede, for the same knock-down price, from Ugg Outlet as my beige pair were getting so much wear.

Last week I brought another pair, brown leather this time. Sadly this pair were not as reduced in price as previous, but still sure to represent great value per wear.

These boots can be worn all day, they're almost like wearing are slippers and suit most outfits, trousers, shorts and dresses, etc.

Pussy Cat Bow Blouses

Around 10 years ago Hawes and Curtis tempted me with a special offer. I bought two fitted pussy cat bow blouses as I couldn't decide between plain black and black with gold print. As I have worn them a lot, 'true to form' I recently bought more in two further colours - Purple and Red from Vinted .

I picked up a similar blouse from TU in Sainsbury's with buttons hanging off for £2.50, I am not a slave to a label, only to a particular style.

Clinique Chubby Sticks

I was given a cheek chubby stick as a Mother's Day Gift by my Daughter. I loved how easy and quick it was to apply, no brushes required, just finger tips and the colour lasted all day. Of course, I was now on the hook for more, and ended up purchasing two chubby sticks for eyes.

Nowdays these are the staples of my makeup, but ...... Clinique has decided to discontinue making chubby sticks for eyes.

I have purchased the replacement alternative, High Impact Shadow Play . It is a good product, two colours in one but in much smaller quantity , I think it will run out faster than the chubby stick .

Bandanas

Buying these is a habit I began back in 1983 at Flip, the American second-hand clothing store in Covent Garden. Possibly due to the fact it was all I could afford to buy amongst the rather expensive secondhand Levis, Baseball Jackets etc. It is lovely red and white cotton classic paisley print bandana. It has aged beautifully well, I still wear it. I have others in American Cotton from Gap. Classic paisley designs - black with white print and white with black paisley, beige and black, navy and cream and most recently from Vinted orange and blue.

Bandanas are an addictive accessory - I have these bookmarked for future purchases.

Cropped Wide Leg Trousers - A trouser for all seasons .

Sensibly Zara seems to have my favourite wide legged cropped trouser style on repeat. It appears in their collections every season in new colour ways and varying fabric types. When I find myself needing some more trousers I go for these ones, as the buying process is then easy. No hideous visits to the changing rooms trying on multiple pairs of trousers to weed out the ones that don’t flatter or fit . Does the waist fit? Is the rise too high ? Are the hips too narrow? Is leg length right? Are they see-through? This can be a laborious task. Now I just log onto Zara or Vinted and purchase another pair, safe in the knowledge that I know my size, the fit and that this cut will look good on me.

I now have 6 pairs of these trousers - Black, Red, Pink, Cream, Burgundy and Tweed. One more purchase and I will have a pair for each day of the week !

On Instagram you can see me swishing these trousers around on Reels.

I could go on further, expanding to cover many more items, but for now I'll stop and hand the list over to you .

What are your repeat /multiple buys ? That sweater you had to have in every colour way possible, the socks that you swear by or the shampoo you stockpiled after the manufactuer annouced its immient demise.

Comment or message me yours . I'd love to know your favourite buys.

Thanks for reading . Until Sunday ~ Cherrio x
